This Film Unit is a five day lesson plan in which I teach the skills required in a deep critical analysis of film. The goals for this lesson are to retain the knowledge and apply it to other movies the students will watch, looking deeply into them as they would a novel. The immediate goal is to have the students use these skills while creating their own film. By immediatley taking these skills and using them in their own film, the information will stay with them and they will not be able to look at a movie without considering things such as the Director's choices made, as well as the techniques used in the cinematography. This film was chosen because it fit the criteria that is discussed within the lesson, as well as the fact that it won 5 academy awards and can be found on the American Film Institutes top 100 movies of all time. The value in teaching this film within a class is undeniable, as it is a well crafted masterpiece, just like any other piece of classic literature.
